Nymphs are the Greek and Roman goddesses of free nature, and they are the embodiments of the vitality of nature. Their cult is closely connected to springs, fountains and wells, because in ancient times people thought that water is a present from nymphs. Nymphs were therefore widely venerated wherever a spring dedicated to them watered fields, meadows and gardens.
