The exhibition presents the art of Francz Anton Maulbertsch, one of the most talented painters of the Central European region in the 18th century, and his outstanding disciple, Josef Winterhalder, to the Hungarian public. Maulbertsch moved to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from the Boden lake, and continued living in the “city of emperors” until his death.
One of the last great baroque painters who, with his non-conventional and personal style and expressive painting style operating with lights and colours, was the forerunner of several modern artistic trends. His significance is comparable with that of Mozart both in the Austrian and in the universal cultural history.
The finest of his paintings compounded of colours, shadows and light.
