The world-famous American artist, Allan Sekula (Erie, Pennsylvania, 1951), became popular with his documentarist photographic and video art.
From the beginning of his career in the early seventies, he has been interested in undermining the traditional methods of visuality and in particular artistic depiction. Sekula is also the permanent critic of the usual myths of capitalism: he focuses his interest on the working man, who is bound by global capital.
The exhibition includes his early and present works as well, without the intention of retrospective introduction. A part of the exhibition, which is built around the topic of work, and the related individual and social situations and approaches, is the new series titled Polonia and Other Fables, which documents and examines the social impact of globalisation with a critical eye.
The exhibition is a result of a close cooperation with the Zachęta National Art Gallery from Warsaw (Zachęta – Narodowa Galeria Sztuki) and The Renaissance Society from Chicago.
